Outback Express judged “Best from the West” Rob Bawdon and the Outback Express team have been judged “the best from the west” and the only west Australian team to be judged in the top 10 in the country for the 2007/08 season by Australian speedway magazine, Oval Express. The end of season review printed in the August issue of the magazine was carried out by the magazines respected editor Jon Evans who is a regular at Super sedan events around the country. Rob and the team were judged 7th in a star studded lineup which included such names and Jamie Mchugh, Darren Kane and outgoing #A1 Michael Gee who was judged 8th behind Rob. The magazine were complimentary of both the ability of Rob and on the “set up” ability of the team as a result of Rob qualifying on the front row of the 2008 national title at his first visit to the Mildura circuit. When questioned about the achievement Rob commented that “To be included in that sort of company is great, ” but we really need to back it up with a solid performance this year and we intend to have a big crack at improving on last years title result and hopefully retain the WA1 for the team and sponsors. Danny (Smith) is just waiting on a couple of bits to complete the new car and we should have it here by months end so the first hit out will be at Round 1 of the Summer Series in Broome on 19th September. The coming year in WA will be very competitive and while Troy Brook has taken a year off there are now a whole swag of drivers who can win on any night. My old car has gone to Dusty Higgs and he will be campaigning two Rockets for himself and Dustin this year, so the entire level of competition will be higher this year which should help when we travel to take on the eastern states boys at Lismore for the national title as well as when the east coasters come to run at Hammerdown commented Rob.
