Before a big crowd at the Perth Motorplex, Rob Bawdon of Kalgoorlie won the 2007/2008 WASCF K Trans WA Super Sedan Championship, in an action packed 25 lap Championship Final.
The race was run at a cracking pace on a very fast race surface, with Bawdon leading from the outset.
He was pursued by Troy Brook, Peter Lyall, Keith Higgs, Marc Giancola and Kemble Aylett in the early stages.
Trevor Bale would be the first to retire after just six laps, but it would be on lap thirteen where the whole complexion of the race would change.
Troy Brook hit the front on lap thirteen but this would be short lived.
Minor contact between Higgs and Lyall in turn two saw Higgs leap through the air with maybe just one wheel on the track, before slamming into the concrete safety wall, destroying the entire front of the car.
On the restart, Bawdon would be placed back infront of Brook, as per the last recorded lap. Giancola and Lyall collided on the back straight, still on lap thirteen, with Giancola damaging the steering from the contact, forcing the defending champion to watch from the infield.
Lyall was sent to the rear of the field and with that his chances of winning the Title. Lyall would spin again on the same lap, with officials putting the RX8 off the track, for causing a second stoppage.
While all of this occurred, the front left shock absorber collapsed on Rob Bawdons car. Luckily with the fast race surface Bawdon was able to keep the front of the car off the ground, and remarkable set the fastest times of the night in the process.
After another stoppage on lap fifteen when both Rick Musarra and John Triplett collided, Bawdon still lead from Brook, Aylett, Roberts and Murray Iwanow. Iwanow who qualified via the B Main, had advanced to fifth as his more fancied rivals, fell by the wayside.
Brook tried valiantly in the concluding stages to pass Bawdon, as Bawdon fought with his car, but it was not to be.
Rob Bawdon went on to record a great victory which was cheered on by a crowd supporting the underdog. Troy Brook drove a faultless race on his 30th birthday to finish second for the second year in a row, while Kemble Aylett just held on to third ahead of Victorian Lucas Roberts.
Earlier in the night Bawdon secured pole position for the final by winning his final heat, while Warren "Rab" Hambley won the final heat.
